IPE Society 2019 - 2020

End of year update:

The society has held 5 events this academic year. We organised three academic events: a COPD event, stroke event and a care in the community event. We organised two social events a bingo night and a pub quiz for Charlie’s House a local NE charity. With some of our events filling 130 spaces in 12hrs we have encourage over 200 people to become members and attend our events.

As Covid19 developed we kept in contact with our committee and updated them on the situation. We listened and watched carefully on what was happening from government advice and promptly cancelled our 6th event Supporting Child Development. We still wanted to engage our members and allow the committee an opportunity to demonstrate what their thoughts and feelings over this academic year. This inspired us to create a standard format and release videos on our social media with a variety of professions. This allowed us to overcome the challenge of the pandemic and hopefully boost morale in a strange time. Feedback from our members and the committee were positive about this addition and the committee felt proud to showcase their involvement with IPE and what it meant to them. We have also showcased student keyworkers who have been working tirelesly on the front lines during the pandemic whilst studying for exam, graduating and looking after themselves and their families.

Our president (Erin Gilmour) and secretary (Vivien Yu) were both nominated and chosen as finalists for the Scottish Pharmacy Student Leadership Award, this accolade was won by Erin. Erin Gilmour also won the John Horder Award in 2019 facilitated by CAIPE a global interprofessional organisation.

At our first meeting we had over 50 members turn up to be a part of our committee and we are proud to say that most of them have continued on supporting our society by helping at each event, teaching or retweeting and liking our posts on social media.

Due to Covid19 our year was cut short. That didn't stop our committee from celebrating their incredible achievements over the year! As a group we were awarded the student engagement award.

  • President Erin Gilmour (2018-2020) was 1/5 in the university to have been awarded a Full Scarlet
  • Secretary Vivien Yu (2018-2020) was awarded a Half Scarlet with Distinction
  • Vice President Sarah Jack (2018-2020) was awarded a Half Scarlet with continued excellence
  • Committee member Kelsey Drummond was awarded a half scarlet with continued excellence
  • Treasurer Monika Lis (2018-2020) was awarded a half scarlet
  • Social secretary Nicola Will (2019-2020) and committee member Gemma Catton were both awarded a recognition award
  • Our committee member Gemma Scott and Nadia Mathers were both awarded a certificate

Covid-19 didn't stop us this year! Thank you to our wonderful committee and society members for all of your contributions, hard work and enthusiasm this year. Good luck to the new incoming committee!

Overall we have had a successful year and we look forward to what the society works on and achieves this coming year!
